Jul 4 - 6: Huahine, French Polynesia, Tahiti

[View Photos]

Huahine is located between Tahiti and Bora Bora. It is home to one of the most significant ruins throughout the Polynesian islands. The island is not very well known, but highly recommended if you are looking for a relaxing getaway on a Pacific Island with natural beauty and charm. It is not quite as touristicalistic as Bora Bora or Morea, but well worth at least two days if you are on one of the Tahiti Air Island Passes that lets you visit multiple islands on one airline ticket. The vanilla grown on this island is some of the finest there is and sought after by some of the world's finest chefs (vanilla on pizza does not work very well, so I decided to pass). [View Photos]

Places to stay in Huahine:

Relais Mahana: There are not that many hotels to chose from on Huahine. Relais Mahana has a lot to offer, including on-premise restaurant, beach, kayaking, biking, boat tour, car rental, scooter rental and more. The hotel offer very nice cabins right on the edge of the beach with very romantic open-air showers. The only disappointment was that the beach was full of hundreds of sea cucumbers (and not a single sea lettuce or sea tomato in order to make a sea salad).

Things to do on Huahine:

Boat Tour: The boat tour is a great way to see the beauty of the island from all sides. It makes a few stops along the way to see the Sacred blue-eyed eels that the locals worship like the Indians worship the cows in India. It also stops at an oyster farm, and the all-day tour even includes a lunch on a secluded island.

Scooter Tour: Another very fun way to see the island is by renting a scooter for the day and run off explore and stop wherever you want. The Relais Mahana hotel offers scooter rentals on the premises.
