Dec 27 - 28: Queretaro, Mexico

[View Photos]

Queretaro is one of many UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Mexico and an easy two hour drive north of Mexico City. If you only have time for a day trip, then this is definitely doable. However, I would recommend a minimum three day trip and include the other World Heritage sites in the area: San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato. The colonial architecture is very interesting and the buildings are well maintained. There are also tons of great restaurants and lots of live music to choose from. [View Photos]

Places to stay in Queretaro:

Antiguo Meson de Aspeytia Hotel: This was an old mansion that has been very nicely renovated, updated and converted into a hotel. The doors and the floors are made from original handcrafted wood...just be careful with the floors that slope at about a 20 degree angle. The breakfast is abundant and very tasty. The hotel is very well located...walking distance to the town center, plaza, church and restaurants. There is a maze of one-way streets, complicated by the typical road construction, so I would recommend asking for directions before you get there and be careful not to miss a turn otherwise it is a 20 minute detour in order to come back around and make another pass.
