Another great day trip from Morelia is to go to the town of Parangaricutiro where the eruption of the
Paricutin Volcano in 1943 destroyed the local church. Miraculously, all that survived was the bell tower and the altar.
Parangaricutiro is also known as Parangaricutirimicuaro which thanks to my 8th grade Spanish teacher I am able to
pronounce and this very worthwhile skill has since won me a free margarita as a Michoacan Restaurant in
Las Vegas (kids...this is why it is important to stay in school!). Here, I was able to get some great shots of the
locals, including some of my all time favorites as Gabriela asks an elderly local about the story of
Parangaricutirimicuaro...his eyes sparkle as he recalls the legend. There are also some great shots of
the local kids and the women vendors making some amazing local treats.
